Food scanners in schools and colleges

The food scanner is an idea that could be implemented in schools and colleges to fight against food waste at all levels. The idea is simple.

As much as every student is use to swipe its student ID before entering the food halls, schools and colleges could implement a system in which every student, using their smartphone, could report the state of the food remaining in their plate after their lunch. Far from having for goal to monitor the individual student, the idea would be to adapt the plate given to students to reduce the waste. If the question of the price of meal plans might arise we would then consider an overall decrease that would be the proportional to the decrease in food consumption that would have been measured. Meal plans would, obviously, not discriminate by if someone eats a lot, or nothing at all.
